Bio:
Appointed Dundalk player-manager in June 1996 following a successful playing career in Scotland, the ultimate highlight coming in 1983 when he came off the bench to score the winning goal in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final for his home town club Aberdeen in their defeat of Real Madrid. He also had Scottish caps at U-21, Youth and Schoolboy level.
With Aberdeen he collected all the competitive honours—2 Premier Div Championship medals (1983/84 and 1984/85), 4 Scottish Cups (1982, 1983, 1984 and 1986), Skol League Cup, Super Cup. He moved to Celtic but his time at Parkhead was dogged by injuries and a move to St Mirren did not improve matters. After missing the entire 1995/96 season through injury he retired to concentrate on a new career in management.
His period at Dundalk closed his football-related career.
His career Scottish League appearances aggregated to 360 games and he was credited with 69 goals.
