|Debut:||30-Aug-36, Shield, (A) v. Dolphin|
Peter Halpin lined out at outside left on the first Oriel Park match (a Shield game against Cork), scoring once in the 2-1 win. The immediate departure of three of the opening day forwards saw Peter moved to centre forward and three weeks later he scored Oriel Park’s first hat trick, in a 7-2 victory over Bray Unknowns.
A clever player, his lack of inches was no impediment in the early season games and he found the net in five successive Shield games, finishing with a Shield tally of 8. But during the League the goals dried up. His season tally of 13 goals was just one goal behind that of leading scorer Joey Donnelly.
