|Debut:||4-Feb-73, League, (a) Sligo Rovers, 1-1|
Joe McAleavey was one of a trio, with Tony Cavanagh and Gerry Brammeld, who were brought in from Glentoran in February 1973 in an effort to beef up the squad for the FAI Cup. They had each been with the Glens in their Championship-winning 1971-72 year.
But in a truly dreadful season the newcomers made no difference and Shamrock Rovers 3-0 first round FAI Cup win in a second replay effectively brought an early closure to the season. Joe stayed for the following year under John Smith, another forgettable season, but in early December he departed. He spent the 1974-75 year with Drogheda United.
